Austrian Princess, later to be one of the most iconic queens of history, Marie Antoinette was a pioneer on a lot of things. As the Queen of France, her public appearance meant everything. Tired of the extravagant couture of the court, she wore her chemise (a dress like under-garment worn by women of 18th century France) at her Hameau de la Reine (the country house she had built for a modest getaway from the palace). During her time at her cottage house, her closest friend Elisabeth Vigée-Lebrun painted the queen wearing her chemise. The painting (La Reine en Gaulle) later on was exhibited at the Salon de Paris and caused a big scandal. Inspired by the modesty and free spirit of Queen Marie Antoinette, this handmade dress is for the pure hearted who never change despite all the rumors.
