The official tea ceremony of the Japanese is a tradition since the 8th century. While at the time it was perceived among wealthy members of society as tea-drinking parties where attendees showcased their wonderful teapots and their knowledge of tea, today a more refined version of tea parties have evolved, with more emphasis on zen-inspired simplicity and spirituality.
