My Beachy Side founder Gamze Ates' mission is to provide economic opportunity to unemployed women in her home country of Turkey. Despite the challenges, Gamze sees her potential – only 30% of women in Turkey are employed outside the home. My Beachy Side employs women in Istanbul as well as in Diyarbakir, an area in southern Turkey near the Syrian border that is suffering from political unrest and has a large refugee population. The brand currently provides employment opportunities to an underprivileged and diverse group of over 500 women with otherwise limited access. The brand offers not only income but also growth opportunities, including business training. My Beachy Side enables women to support themselves financially and enrich the community beyond. The creators of My Beachy Side apply fair trade principles and set their own wages to ensure a sincere and ethical relationship, believing that financial independence is a crucial first step towards women's empowerment.
